Crocodile Smile

Today was Sebastian's first dental checkup with Dr. Charles Hughes at Dyersburg Pediatric Dentistry. It's a somewhat long drive for a dental appointment [1 hour 15mins], but well worth it. The office is the most kid-friendly environment and the staff is wonderful. Sebastian had absolutely zero apprehension about the office, even with all the tools buzzing. The actual examination room is quite public. One large room full of examining tables lined up side by side and end to end. Very spacious...not as though we could reach out and touch the next customer, but very open - enough that you could tell what most people were there for. Sebastian did wonderful. He hopped right up to the table and his dental hygientist showed him the tools that she would be using. He got to touch and feel them and turn them off & on. He loved the water and the suction tube. She would fill his mouth with water and he'd stick Mr Thirsty in his mouth and it would suck his little cheeks together. He laughed and laughed. After she cleaned and flossed his teeth, he picked out a new toothbrush (a blue Sally toothbrush from Cars) and he got a little bag full of important teeth-cleaning supplies.
Dr. Hughes then introduced himself and talked to Sebastian about brushing his teeth. Dr. Hughes said that Sebastian has beautiful teeth, "perfect enamel and alignment" and whatever we are doing, we should definitely keep doing it. He was more than excited to hear that Sebastian has never been put to bed with a bottle or a sippy cup of anything except water. We discussed Sebastian's diet and his regular drinking habits, and surprisingly, he said that Gatorade is one of the worst drinks, causing lots of damage to enamel (worse that soda). I guess Sebastian will be giving up his Gatorade for some sugar-free Crystal Lite. I'm so happy the appointment went well and we received a perfect bill of healthy teeth!! Just one more reason to smile today!! Below are some pics that I snapped during his exam.

Sebastian...the absolute love of my life. He is our currently only child. He is almost 3 and is as independent as they come. He loves washing his hands & swinging. He would live outside if he could. He's developing a love of thunderstorms from his Mama & Daddy. He looks adorable in flip flops. He loves talking on the phone. He has gorgeous blue eyes & dashing dimples. His favorite thing to eat is fruit or Starbursts. He sleeps with his blue snowman blanket wankwie. He loves to be tickled or chased. He loves his Mama & Daddy more than anything!
